I-290 to exit 24. Travel north 3 miles, entrance to Tower Hill on right.
Just 10 miles from Worcester, Tower Hill is a year-round, living museum of plants. The 132-acre site features both formal and informal style gardens, meadows, woodland trails and a panoramic view of the Wachusett Reservoir and mountains to the west.
Tower Hill showcases some of the finest plants appropriate for New England climates. An orchard of 119 varieties of antique apples not found in orchards today greets visitors to the garden. A Lawn Garden contains more than 350 species and varieties of trees and shrubs. Cottage and Vegetable Gardens reflect gardening styles of the 80s. A Secret Garden features pastel flowers and fragrant plants. A Wildlife Garden with vernal pool attracts birds, butterflies and bats. A Systematic or "teaching" Garden arranges plants according to evolutionary sequence. Within this placement, the plants are grouped by family. Statuary, fountains and an arbor complete this garden eliciting ornate images of Italianate gardens.
An Orangerie (18th-century-style greenhouse) houses temperate and subtropical flora with surrounding Fern Gallery. An Education and Visitors Center contains a library, theater, Garden Shop, Café and other visitor amenities.
Throughout Tower Hill are benches for relaxing and meditating. Unusual features include a Belvedere (Italianstyle viewing pavilion), Folly (replica of a Greek ruin) Double Pergolas, an Entry Pavilion and a circa 1742 Farmhouse.
