Set in the rolling hills of Central Massachusetts, Old Sturbridge Village presents a vivid and unforgettable portrait of life in a country village in early 19th-century New England.

The landscape is re-created with original homes, craft shops, meetinghouses, and mills brought to the museum site from throughout New England. Authentically costumed “Villagers,” called history interpreters, demonstrate and discuss with today’s visitors the life, work, and celebrations of early 19thcentury Americans.

Come follow our country roads and immerse yourself in a vast and marvelous collection of Americana on 200 acres.

Lean over the fence to meet new lambs, or chat with farmers training oxen. Watch potters, shoemakers, tinners, and blacksmiths practicing their crafts. At the Freeman Farm, see experience at work as women bake bread and puddings in a brick oven. Stroll the encircling walks of Mrs. Towne’s pleasure garden and tour her home to see the furnishings of a prosperous family.

Perhaps you’ll wish to dine in our new Tavern, located at the museum entrance or visit the Museum Gift Shop and Bookstore for Village-made crafts, fine gifts, jewelry, and a unique selection of books. Linger a little longer and stay at our Old Sturbridge Village Lodges and Oliver Wight House. Above all, relax and enjoy a time you’ll never forget at Old Sturbridge Village.
